The Tragedies of Children

Mon, 05/27/2013 - 11:31 -- Annie

Of all the varying things in this world
That people will fight to protect,
Everyone seems to agree
That Family is a worthy cause to kill or be killed for.

Lovers will go to great lengths for one another.
Children will go to great lengths for their parents.
Silver blades will slice through locks of hair
So a daughter may take her father’s place in battle.
Deals will be agreed upon so that a young, selfless girl
Will replace her father in a Beast’s dungeon.

But although great sacrifices
Such as these are performed,
Tragedies will still occur.
And what will become of these brave daughters then?

Times will be difficult and pain will be overwhelming,
But those innocent children must live on.
They cannot be the exception to the rule,
The one child that never grew up.

And so they shall become adults:
Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to work they go.
Carrying the fond memories off their childhood with them,
And weaving them into the people they evolve into.
