A Tragic Enchantment

What is it that we find so enchanting about self destruction? So much so that we seemingly become oblivious to the trauma being caused to us by the actions and vices that we cling to for a sense of euphoria that we can't seem to find in anything or anyone healthy for us to be captivated by. The fragile minds and emotions that we let ourselves be guided by send us into the most beautifully tragic scenarios and we aren't even aware of the pain and harm that we have self inflicted until we are settled and the dreamlike state washes away leaving tears and scars that will no sooner heal than we will acknowledge that we have been inflicted with them at all. Why is it that we must always be dragged away from these toxins by the ones who watch us be destroyed and ignore the wounds being inflicted to themselves to insure our safety? It is forbidden that there be a still beating heart unaffected by the struggles and tragedies inflicted on us by each breath we take as soon as our heads break the surface of life.
