The Train

The train is chugging on

And I can’t slow it down.

Speeding away to the unknown

The train keeps chugging on.

Passengers restless, craving speed

Each racing on to the finish.

Before they know it

The ride is at its end.

I stand alone reaching for what I’ve lost

Grasping at empty air

The train is gaining speed, gaining speed.

Faster, faster, faster

Passengers on the edge of their seats

Speeding too fast to enjoy the scenery.

The daffodils dancing in the breeze go unnoticed.

The turtles basking in the sun

The rippling waves of grass

And the willow’s swaying arms

All go unnoticed.

The train chugs on faster, faster, faster

Everyone eager to reach a destination

And I’m just trying to find a way off

So I can dance with the daffodils.
