Train of Thought

My train of thought was derailed today When all the stupid little details arrived. Like letters floating on a stream That fell off the latest edition Of yesterday’s news. Those letters spiraled down- Those letters just disappeared. A mug of Echinacea tea holds me in it And we both go down too easily. Drinking hot tea on a humid summer day A new path to explore. Something to make bad things disappear- Everything just disappears. It’s so hard to see with a beam in my eye; It’s harder to pull it out by myself. I could fashion that beam into a ship And sail it around the world Searching for the island where I spied the last lonely vestiges of A man I used to know. I left that soul stranded. I left that soul blinded. I left him dancing in the moonlight Like a mad prophet With visions of beauty in his head. With thoughts of salvation Written on the back of his hand. I left that soul hoping. I got on the train ‘cause there’s nowhere to go But it’s like comfort to be around All the smiling people on their way To their happy destinations. It feels like family- It feels like deception. Someone speaks to me and I need to hear- I think she said something about ‘hope’. When I stare into the purity of her sky blue eyes I feel like I’m falling into places Where moonlight and starlight Balance and burn so brightly. I hope she knows the way.
