Transition

I remember there being a time

What feels so long ago

When it never mattered what happened around me

A world where nothing was wrong

And my biggest decision

Was if I wanted ketchup or barbeque sauce

As people like to say

“It was a simpler time”

Running around the park

Jumping around the playground

Pretending to be an american ninja warrior

Those nights I fell asleep

And listened to Veggietales

This was all until One Day

When I woke up to Needtobreathe playing Brother

To go and watch the news

Only to see the darkness that’s in the world

A more complex time

Where now my decision

Is what kind of legacy I want to leave to my name

Do I stay in a bubble of false security

Or do I step out and try to change lives

I know I can’t anymore

But I try to send a message to my past self

To stay strong during tough times

And to have faith during the impossible times

As I gather my thoughts

I begin to write

“Dear Younger Me,”
