Trapped
Dear Stranger,
I don’t want to live in this cage anymore.
I no longer flinch when your boots hit the floor.
But I’m tired of playing hide and seek,
wondering if my fear makes me weak.
I don’t want to be this crippled bird anymore.
I’m looking through the window, but I can’t reach the door.
And even though I know there’s no lock in my way,
Leaving might hurt more than if I stay.
I don’t want to be a willing prisoner anymore.
My legs want to run but my mind isn’t sure.
I’m running in circles, my mind never sleeps.
I’m falling in my dreams, I’m just in too deep.
