Trapped
I wish to disappear from society,
Feeling like an outcast in my own skin,
Surrounded by minds
That think so differently from my own.
I long to walk off to a distant place,
Enveloped by vibrant life and rushing water,
Where stars fill the night
Where you can smell the true earth
And hear the whispers of your own thoughts.
Here, my mind is shackled by the burden of conformity,
Eat, work, sleep, slave away, burn out,
Only to die like everyone else, a copy, a robot,
Too consumed and busy to hear your soul's true desires.
I don't need to die for a physical cause or purpose,
There is no cure for an infection so widespread,
Embedded in the tainted minds of robots trapped in their
Fictional stories of making a change
In what they have created.
I'm selfish,
If I could grasp a moment of peace in this battle,
I would give it all up,
Escape to my own oasis to set my physical being free,
So my soul could wander through bliss or emptiness.
But when the sun sets and I lay my head down,
I wake up to the same repetition and trap,
An endless, inescapable cycle of modern society.
I want to peel back my skin, muscles, nerves, and bones,
Until I finally reach the true me,
To Set it free,
Free from this never progressing war.
