Trapped
Though my heart is deftly shattered
With the thick blow from your glass
A bitch, you call her, and I agreed
The letters breached my hazy mind
And twisted my lopsided smile
Into a tight lipped torment
I could not grasp the sentence
Not just yet
Just as my eyes wiped away the smoke
That flowed dangerously from your mouth
And how the track marks on your neck
Widened with each night alone
I didn’t feel the phantom pressure
Of your arms slipping under my ribs
As we lay in the bliss of each other’s
heartbeats
I refused to remember the smell of your
cologne
Sharp and fresh, the kind that made me
Remember spring snow
Made me remember countries
I’d never been to
But I could see them shining through
your eyes
My lips didn’t yet burn
With the taste of your own
No, it wasn’t until my mind had settled
Back among humanity
Until my heart ached, hollowed out
Until my fingers couldn’t dare
Touch anything for fear of
Losing the feeling of you
Now I thirst for a sweet fire
To drown my reason and memory
To make my tears fall faster
For everyone knows we’ve been conditioned
To catch the flicker of a flame
Lit by another careless soul
And breathe it into a raging blaze
Do not dare, I warn you
Do not dare taint my memory
With your lazy drawl or soft skin
But I am already trapped
