Treasures you can see

Matthew 6:21 New English Translation (NET Bible)

21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Treasures you can see ... how do they stack up?

In vaults, in banks, in board rooms guarded by the selfish-will

It removes faith out of the heart and fills it with self-reliance?

The power of wealth and what it buys will direct until

the grave swallows up all the breath and thought in defiance.

A faithless man is like a cripple stumbling through existence.

The faithless home he builds is founded on the sand

As faithless children, he begets made in his own image

and faceless is his destiny that’s burned in his hand.

How many of these gather with me every Sunday morning?

How many sing songs of peace from a restless heart?

How many is an answer that’s to be a forlorn question

of many “ME’s” and “YOU’s”, who came along thus far?

Is it you that is my concern all the “You’s” are the issue

Is it me where it all starts  ... this contaminated tissue?

But it is easier if it is you for I can’t really change me

For with me I know there is no desire to restrain me.
