Tree and a Dove
I wake up on an island with a tree and dove indeed,
A very large island, so I feel like a seed.
I try to escape the island with speed,
But in truth there's something big, something huge that I need.
Okay, more than one something; an abundance of them
A tide pool of somethings; a hundred of them
But is it really true that I need all these things?
Do I need them to survive as a bird needs its wings?
The first that comes to mind is a good drink of water
And maybe a meal and a blanket, too
But I think that with all this island has to offer
I'll just be good with the ocean blue.
The next on my list might seem a bit abysmal
But a video game comes right to mind
I like to think that with electricity and signal,
It would be a fun way to pass all this time.
But is that something I need like a lung?
A bee needs its stinger, until you get stung
But once that happens, the bee quickly dies
And it no longer needs it, a bundle of lies
So next I am thinking, what is my stinger?
What is that thing I need to survive?
What is my reprieve, my certain death-bringer
A thing that matters so much while I am alive?
The answer to that is really quite simple
But difficult at the same time
It's not really a thing, like a phone or a pimple
But a person, or persons, who can make me shine.
The power of family, the power of love
Is unconditional; of this there's no doubt
So on this island with a tree and a dove,
My family is the thing that I can't live without.
