Tribal Dance

Your eyes burn into me, And I cannot seem to look away A deer, caught in headlights A tribal spirit, lost in its sway The drums play and the spirit shakes As my cheeks are painted blood red Through hooded eyes, you stare The drums keep playing in my head Like a moth attracted to a flame I have been burnt before, and learned Freefalling into someone else’s arms Is not a God given right, it is earned I tear my eyes away, in shame Look at the ground, paint on my face I do not deserve the freedom in love I do not deserve you, and your grace.
