Tribulation's Grace

Her velvet paws may never again tread this earth,

And I let deaths trap hold me in place;

The one we all should see coming.

We don’t realise they take part of our soul

When they depart without warning.

But a mother’s love stops at nothing

To ease the pain and give new purpose

When bleakness stoops to suffering.

So four new velvet pads tread

To lessen the weight of a friend’s absence.

Ignorance and absentmindedness are blinders

To an obstinate reality’s sting

That four paws last a fifth of the time

Of those walking with two feet.

Cutting strings to the past seemed unfeasible

For despair grabs you by the hair

While acceptance is a villian

Who laughs as he escapes your grasp.

But hope arrives camoflauged

You feel her warm vibrations before you make out her form

Hope is new and bold

And as far as trusting her,

Opening your heart,

You’re not quite sold.

Time is hope’s best chance

To remember an old four-footed friend

And see right through dwellings’ trance.

So four new paws grow on you

As time garenteed,

And hope turns a weak and dim flicker

Into a dancing beam that radiates sufficiency.

Now time’s persistance will show you

That though you thought you lost a part of yourself,

Your favorite things about yourself

Could not have surfaced in comfortable routines

There is no room for growth

When comfort tucks you in at night.

Comfort herself is a cunning void

Where inspiration goes to die.

A wolf dressed in sheeps clothing,

Her pleasures decieve and manipulate man

Into believing the widespread lie

That discomfort is the enemy.

Discomfort is truly the essence of individual strength.

So now identify and embrace this truth

In order to accept this uncomfortable change

As an opportunity for personal growth,

And watch yourself blossom and be thankful

For the four-legged creature whose absence

Blessed you with uncomfort,

So that when four new paws came along

You could rejoice for the change they brought,

Rejoice for the memories made,

Rejoice for the memories to come,

Rejoice for the person you are becoming,

Rejoice for the new chapter you are beginning.
