Trickles

I ran away for a day, I escaped, I left earth.
The rain kissed me on the way and the thunder murmured things I couldn’t understand.
I knocked on your door and you answered,
I swear you hadn’t showered in days and were under heavy medication, but I loved it.
It was you in a way no one else saw you.
You sat next to me on the couch. You hugged me with one arm as hard as you could,
The other lay dislocated in your cast.
A knot made its home in my throat.
I thought to myself that little cliché line all lovers say when in love,
Heaven was a place on earth with you.
And I laughed because I’m pathetic,
I don’t even believe in heaven.
But you smiled at me, unaware, and I smiled back.
The rain would have been jealous if it knew what I did next.
