Tristis Felines
The kitten's heart is broken.
She has been left behind.
Mother, Siblings, Friends, all gone.
Matured, yet immature in her time.
The only other she can see
Is a majestic lion as he walks on.
"Shall I follow him? Tread his footsteps?"
She pondered as she relived all the times she'd wept.
But the lion has had his own share of pain,
Unfair, it seems, more than any known man.
Under fur, coarse and soft, are scars from his past,
Some deep enough to see, and still he has last'd.
Encouraging, or worrisome? The kitten doesn't know.
As she stumbles after, she decides, "I will follow."
A trip, a fall. She crashes at his feet.
With an apologetic mewl, she begins to retreat.
She is stopped with a paw,
And she looks up, in awe.
She is left softly assured
With a soft lick and purr.
She walks on with him,
Newfound trust never dim.
