Troubled Dreaming

I am underwater with a huge rock upon my chest

As I'm sinking, I yearn to be above water, to be above the others

I can't breathe, air never makes it to my lungs

Somewhere in the sinking, I give in

I embrace the water, my personal comfort

The rock my troubles, my pain, my individuality

I give into the gentle pressure surrounding me

It holds me from every part of my body

As I relax, the rock begins to lighten

Gone are insecurities, feeling unnapreciated, stress

I find peace in the silence, the brief separation

I slowly begin to rise back to the surface

Back to the world, back to societal expectations

I open my eyes
