Is This True?

With every passing word,

I could feel my sanity creeping away.

The shame in your voice,

Ever so present.

I had never heard such...

Such a vile series of events.

I felt my heart beat hard against my chest,

And my eyes widen with terror.

Anxiety written plainly on my face,

You asked, "Does this change anything?"

Was my answer the truth?

I don't know.

I don't want things to change,

But that image has been burned into my soul.
