A True Guardian Angel

My dear Hale-Bale,

I can never apologize enough

For the way we used to treat you.

I do not know how I allowed them

To convince me it was okay.

And I regret every day that I did not wake up,

Until I was the one on the receiving end.

Yet, you are the one who stuck -

Steadfast, generous, considerate -

To my side when they deemed us

“Not cool enough.”

Fake-deep Twitter stresses the importance

Of the first person you want to share good news with.

And although we both laugh in scorn

Of these Tumblr University graduates,

For me, you are that one person.

Because you never put the pressure on me to be the perfect girl everyone else sees.

I have high hopes for college,

Traveling six, eight, forty-two hours from home.

But secretly, I know that any college we can go to together

Will be the right fit for me.

Haley,

I love you.
