True Love

You were a diamond

Too beautiful to ignore but too expensive to have

I saw you every day at school

and every night in my dreams

You wouldn't know of course

because you gave a piece of yourself to every other girl

Except for me.

Sophomore year P.E.

We exchanged glances

Occasional teeth

You were lean, tall, exotic

I was chubby, short, and common.

You were 70% of everything I wanted in a guy

But 70% was good enough at the time.

I sought you out at school until I caught sight of you.

Then I froze like a deer in headlights

Because that sweater you had on looked extra nice

and comfy.

I just wanted to cuddle with you

Tell you all my secrets

Give you all my private parts

And save my private part for true love.

But what did I know about true love?

I wouldn't know.

I was only in high school.
