True Stranger's Kiss
Please don’t call too loud, I can hear you.
I hear your tears and your desperate pleading,
But please do not fret, I remain of my own will.
The pillows are fluffed and the blankets plush.
I rest in my finest night apparel, a beauty unmatched.
My eyes have long since fluttered closed.
My body happily welcomed the heavy quilt of sleep
That draped around me so tenderly, so securely.
Please don’t fret, please stay away.
I need you not worry, but please do not forget.
For a hundred years I must rest,
Not once shall I flutter my eyes.
Grant me that one wish and I will return.
But wait-
What is this feeling I have?
My lips enveloped with a warmth so strange?
So unfamiliar and unwelcome is this sensation.
I peel my eyes open as a stranger hovers, a shadow,
Whose thick arms are a cage and mouth blades at my lips.
What is this? Please stop.
I do not wish this, this kiss is not of my will.
Not like the deep sleep of which you have woken me.
Let me be, let me sleep.
Why did you kiss me when my eyes have long since fluttered closed,
And my body embraced by the heavy quilt of sleep?
This is not rescue. This is not love.
Leave me be, let me sleep, leave me;
A sleeping beauty.
