Trumping Science

Trumping Science

When the emperor muzzles science, we

Move the doomsday clock, one minute before

Midnight with the tweet for nuclear war.

We watch the temperature climb by degree

Through the atmosphere of greed and see

A prism of flames knocking on the door

Where elected parrots choose to ignore

The facts of climate change and rising sea.

The empire’s ice cream melts on the kiln cone

Dripping a glaze across the licking tongue

Swallowing the lies that dissolve the earth

Until we are all fired to the ash bone

Pyre, cleansed from shadowy spots on our lung

While we plant gravestones across desert turf.
