The Truth

I sit here, in the dark, trying to write a poem. A million life stories whirl through my head but nothing seems to stick. My thoughts spin, up and down, down and up, around and around. I look out the window, and gaze at the stars. I decide to quit. My email dings, I skim the estimated college costs, and decide that maybe I should give this poem another try. I sit here, in the dark, trying to write a poem. I rolls my eyes and laugh quietly, I can't write. Why am I trying? Why not? My phone rings, a friend, wondering how I'll afford college this semester. I tell them, dumb luck. I turn my phone off, and start to type, I sit here, in the dark, trying to write a poem.
