The Truth

You said you were going to meet some friends,

You said you were going to be back in just a couple hours,

You said it wouldn’t take long,

But we knew you weren’t telling us the truth.

It sincerely pains us to see

What activities you took part in, requiring a big fee,

You took our very own family jewelry

And pawned it to get some stuff they say grows on trees.

You seem to enjoy slamming down the big black handle,

Watching the numbers slowly line up in the middle.

It seems you haven’t won a prize, and your paper is all gone,

“What shall I do? What shall I do,” time to head home.

You said there isn’t anything we should be worried about,

You said that you wouldn’t enter the Devil’s lair ever again,

You said you swear it was all the truth,

But we knew you were lying, please tell us the truth.
