The Truth about Red
His eyes were icy like a mid winter storm.
He wore his heart on his sleeve, but it was broken and torn.
The girl walked by carrying food for her loved ones,
His heart began pounding, because that's what love does.
She tilted her head, a smile nudging at her lips,
then turned those bright eyes to land upon his.
He stood very still, and made no sound at all.
However, she was too clever, his plan to stay away began to fall.
Her laughter echoed through the trees as she told him not to hide.
He stepped out from the darkness to stand by her side.
One blissful evening turned suddenly wrong,
when another wolf stepped out, one more evil, more strong.
He grabbed the girl and bit her fragile skin,
The good wolf knew this was a battle he could not win.
Running as fast as his legs would allow,
He carried her to safety, and made a vow.
He promised her love, kindness and light,
If her eyes would just open so he could give her the sight.
Long story short, the girl in the red survived,
Sadly, those who loved her met a dark demise.
She was no longer a girl with a fragile soul,
she was now a wolf with a hunger taking its toll.
The good wolf stayed true to the promise he made,
taking the blame for every mistake, he watched her humanity slowly fade.
Little red riding hood was the true villain,
but the wolf that loved her kept that truth hidden.
