The Truth Isn't...

The truth isn't that I've read many a pro,

that I have enjoyed works from Silverstein to Poe.

The truth isn't that I write for hours

searching for the word that will empower

the smallest hope, dream, desire in the mind,

that makes the stubborn realize he was blind.

The truth isn't that I know all the tools,

that I remember the lit terms from my school's

amazing English teachers who shared with me

the beauty hidden within the verses of poetry.

No, the truth isn't that I love to create,

that I'm glad that there are people who relate.

But if I said all that I would be untrue

for I hope poetry is with me til my final adieu.
