The Truth of Love
The differences between My Love and hers were always too clear
Time stopped when we were together
But she stayed with him out of fear
He always kept me close and near
But not because I was in his chains
Only because we held each other so dear
She, on the other hand, couldn't stand his leer
So she turned herself into a slave
And hoped one day he'd disappear
But why did she always, always persevere?
It was because of four simple words
That made her soul cheer
"Because I love you" he would say
"Because I love you" were words that she heard everyday.
But he said them with malice and anger is voice
To get what he wanted from her,
So she didn't have a choice
In his mouth the words "I love you" became too perverted
He didn't really mean them each time they were said
He only used them to make sure his control was asserted
But I saw through his lies
As we learned together what those words truly meant,
As we made ourselves wise
"Because I love you"
We would say
I will always be true
"Because I love you"
We proclaimed
I will make sure you're never blue
"Because I love you"
We would shout over the noise of the rest of the world
Through thick and thin we'll stick together like glue.
These little things
Are what make love real.
Maybe one day
Our sisters heart will heal.
So, In the space of a year
I learned what love was, and what it was not
And just hope one day this truth will be clear
