Tuition Rise

Money doesn't grow on trees I'm told

But if it isn't made from paper is it made from thin air?

Or are we speaking about the metals that make coins?

Tuitions rise

Yet money is still hard to come by

I'm in debt

Yet I'm carefree

I wish to simply be me

Yet I'm constrained by tuition fees

I try to better my life yet college is calling my name

But they don't give me enough to cover all my expenses

So am I to blame?

Is it because I'm not good enough?

Or exceptional?

Why do I need to worry about debt when I just want to better the world.

They tell me apply to scholarships

Yet everytime I do I am not lucky

I'm like the winter soldier Bucky

Caught in between cross fire and rejected by both worlds

I was thrown into them without knowing the right words

I am still trying to find myself and yet I am also busy finding other people

With the weight of tuition fees at my heels

I feel it bringing me to my knees

How can I win something that I was never taught to win?

How can I write to appeal to other when I can't appeal to myself?

Instead of swimming in waters, I swim in debt

Instead of swimming in success, I swim in rejection and failure.

How can I win when I don't even have confidence in myself?

How do I find time to perfect this poem when I'm too busy applying to jobs?

Hoping that one day I'll get called.

How can I win free money when I can't even win a spot to work for it?

Tuition rise

As my dreams die

Money seems to elude my grasp

I go to fish for money but all I get is the debt from my tuition

Free money, but is it free for me?

Tuition rise
