Tumbling Heart
Cheerleading,
This letter is to thank you. You’ve kept me busy, you’ve kept me out of trouble, you also help me find myself at my darkest times. At the age of 5 I cheered at my local park for a little league football team. I honestly hated it. The only reason I kept doing it was because my mom made me. I eventually began to cheer for an Allstar team in my city. It was ok, I didn’t too much like it, but I hated being home, so I kept cheering. A few years down the line I got in trouble at school, so my parents decided to take me out of cheerleading as a punishment. At that moment I realized how much I loved it and how much it meant to me. Seeing all my friends on my team go to competitions and winning first place really hurt me. I knew I needed to do better in school for me to be able to cheer again. After that incident, I was put back on the team for that following season and I was doing great in school ever since.
My freshman year in high school I was a cheerleader. I absolutely loved it. It was something different than competitive cheerleading. Cheering for my school’s football team that sucked wasn’t so bad. Getting out of class for pep rallies were my favorite thing about High School Cheer. Now that I’m a senior in High School, I’m also the Captain of my cheer team and hopefully I make the team for the college I will attend this upcoming summer. Thank you so much for being apart of my life for many years, I’m pretty sure if you were a person you’d be my best friend.
Sincerely,
Deavion Velez
