Twenty Eight lines On Past Present and Future

The whirr of electric life is electric thought
blurred by mathematics
confounded by chemistry
disgruntled by retrenchment
inhaling a textbook on its deathbed
disappointed by renovations
tearing apart
sacred dorm rooms
where you grew up on
amphetamines and marijuana
the occasional excursion outside this world
and made love for the first time
in the recesses of dawn
between classes
doped up
on William Burroughs and
transcended from the marketplace by
Allen Ginsberg
the freedom it bought was
an escape from apathetic apathy
all the “scholars” who
moved you to dance and
to feel more than should be
legally attainable by law
but then again these were just illusions
the real crisis is foreign policy
the genuine tragedy
social disruption from far, far away
