Waking up in the morning

I want to sit outside, but am drawn

Like a moth to the flame

of my computer screen.

I am bombarded it seems

By social media

like the nonstop flapping of wings.

The flit and flutter across my screen

making little sense

in their erratic whims

and fast changes of pace.

They beat at my screen

Nonsensical things:

#bestbreakfastever #tootightclothes

#babybump #annoyedsmile #sugarling

They pass and they flash

then come back for more

rotating and changing,

distorting, contorting until

I want to look away

but they’re mesmerizing.

Some are pretty some ugly

some frighten  some sooth

I want it to stop

they’re exhausting

my mood.

They beat and flit and flap and twit

until finally with a snap

#Ishutmyscreen

Escaping-

from the bird cage.
