Two

When she was born

Her eyes were yellow

Somehow she’s fooled us

Into thinking

They’re a deep shade

Of mahogany

And since we hate her

We hate ourselves

And we must do everything

To keep ourselves

From becoming monsters

That lie within us

And within her

And that lie generally.
