Call of duty, 1944.

Old Uncle Sam knocking at the door

18 years old, a boy soon a man.

His daddy gave him two things

And put them in his hands.

Take this Bible, and this guitar.

One for wisdom, and one for the heart.

Read it everyday

And practice makes perfect.

Come home my son! And show me you've earned it.

Years on down the road, the boy a man,

Has his own son, off to Vietnam.

He knows exactly what his son will feel.

So he gives his son something

He knows will heal.

Take this Bible, and this guitar.

One for wisdom, and one for the heart.

Read it everyday

And practice makes perfect.

Come home my son! And show me you'v earned it.

Freedom passed down from generation to the next

But knowledge and love must also be given.

Know your God well and may music reflect

What you've lived, seen, and witnessed.

Years down the road, in father's hands

are two things for his son, off to Afghanistan...
