The Two of Us
There are all of these people shifting around us,
But they hardly hold a candle to you.
There’s something about you that… seems pure and true.
Kind and thoughtful,
You’re not like the rest,
You’re calm and comical under duress.
The smile so easily given to all,
It brightens my day, and everyone else’s, if I do recall.
Full of hope and affection,
You’re a wonder to me,
One day I wish to pull back all your beautiful layers for your inner core to see.
You remind me of the moon shining brightly from above,
I look to you both in adoration and filled with love.
I worry for you, at times,
Being wounded or inflicted pain,
It’s something strange that I can’t explain.
I dream of your protective arms,
Embracing me and shielding me from harm.
I find your forgetfulness quaint and cute,
But I bet the feeling is probably mute.
Your kindness towards others,
Your comical way with life,
Easygoing,
Wonderful,
Nothing seems to bother you,
when it comes to life’s strife.
My heart starts to flutter when you play with little kids,
You’re so great with them as you teach them how to swim.
I dream of you and what you’re thinking when I lay to rest my head,
And I can’t help but wonder if you think of me before you go to bed.
I know this is merely wishful thinking,
For I do not have the guts,
To reveal my heart’s true feelings,
And these lips I do not trust.
But the truth is…I can’t live without you,
I get so strange around you, worried I’ll come off too strong,
And then I appear cold and stern,
But it’s for you I long.
As much as I try to keep my distance,
I need you here and now,
Protective, funny, trusting, we’re together, here, somehow.
Forget these words I’ve written,
Forget all of this lover’s psalms,
This is my heart’s encumber,
For I’ve loved you all along.
