a ring in the middle of my conversation—at jermaine’s house, and he’s pretty fickle once you get to know him—another lonely leah text and this one three words, much like i love you or you’re the father, but

“Please help me.”

leave the party, what’re y’leaving? because shannon’s too drunk, and yeah, sorry, it’s been real and i don’t even mean it, but ring, and this time

“Scared of myself.”

fast now, through red like relief or fire engines wailing to the scene—making a scene? they all say so, with smiles smirching on their faces, huh? and it’s not so good to be in my shoes, my high, red shoes with the upturned toe because, ring, and this time,

“I’m numb again.”

...

“I can’t make you better. I'm human novacaine. I wish I could do something! Other than temporarily releave the pain”

“Without you I’d be hopeless. I'm not strong enough. I'm scared. Please don’t leave me with despair.”

And what the hell do I do with that? but sit beside and wait close and hope for her sake and alone,

in the quiet,

by my ownsome

be scared.
