Unbought and unbossed Two words that meant more Then what anyone would've thought Born in Brooklyn, consumed in poverty Shirley Chisholm very well could see The future that was meant to be A few years back in 2008 A black president was elected And surely this was fate From Chisholm's earlier nomination, I t was surely suspected As an African American congresswoman,yes she was the first But in 1986 true political equality was conceived When she ran for president before 1973. Though she did not win the nomination Her attempt was true inspiration From a woman who could barely afford college, to a woman who must be acknowledged. She broke down barriers for women and minorities. In the United States, were people of color once weren't even free Can be anything especially president of this land from sea to shining sea. Barack Obama is now our leader, But Shirley Chisholm lead the way, For him to be there today
