unchanged

has my outlook really changed?

i looked forward to a future

and yet i remain weary

my appearance once small,

frail and crooked

now fixed by braces, contacts,

and confidence

it is not  all  that is different.

inside my thoughts have become more complex.

I Have Learned

I Have Learned what it means to feel overwhelmed

as my homework was piled high

my expectations for myself were pushed higher

I Have Learned what the responsibility of carrying my own life

as i drove my first car

scaring my mom

I Have Learned of the pain of losing a best friend:

my childhood pet that comforted me

her absence signifing the end of an era

that I cherish.

my appearance has been modified

and I Have Learned

but my outlook on an uncertain future

has remained excited and open; unchanged
