Uncharted
When I open up to you,
Understand that I'm removing this gauze concealing a gaping hole that hurts to even think about.
When I display this lesion,
I’m reminding myself that it never healed.
So maybe talking about it might not appear difficult for you,
But it's a constant reminder for me.
When I open up to you,
You only have to be seated and listen as I prod through myself and discover the memories that carved this hole,
Find the part of myself that was lost in the process of receiving this gash.
I do it for your peace of mind,
So that you may know what sculpted me into who I am.
When I open up to you,
Understand that I am doing it for you,
That the pain is worth every insufferable second,
That the straining struggle to release the words from my throat is worth every minute,
As long as those words are spoken to you.
When I open up to you,
I give you a part of myself I don’t even allow my personality to take,
I’m giving you another piece to a seemingly never ending puzzle,
Yes,
Some of those pieces are broken
And yes,
Maybe this picture is too complicated to put together,
But I know in my mind and soul that if anyone would take the time to finish this torn puzzle,
It’d be you.
And at the end,
When you have every piece connected and laid out in front of you,
A single piece will be missing.
Because,
You are that piece,
You complete my puzzle.
