Unconditional

Because I love you

I looked past the things you said in anger

The words that tore into my heart

That made me

Scared to trust

Insecure

Hateful

Scared

Because I love you

I pretend

Like it never happened

Like I don’t believe I’m stupid

Like I don’t believe I will be alone forever

Like I don’t believe love is always a lie

But because I love you

I know you didn’t mean those things

I know you need redemption

I know that you were hurt

I know that I’m none of the things you said

Because I love you

I work every day to make you feel

Like the words you said to me, that were said to you, are lies

To show you love is unconditional and real

And to show you that despite our past

I love you
