Unconditional Love

I don’t believe that you want to see who I am.  No,

I have the kind of mind that is not supposed to exist in a progressive individual

I was born for a time of chains and of hate the likes of which

Is in the news every day but

That we like to think exists in days long past.

Why then do I love love

And why does the love that exists in this world bloom in my chest

Filling my nose with sweet jasmine

And my mouth with praise?

The problem with today’s unconditional love

Is that it comes with the condition that

All beliefs require your respect

Which in itself is a condition.

People require respect even when they don’t deserve it, yes

But ideas are not people and ideas can be exclusive

There are ideas that cannot coexist

But people are not ideas and the idea that ideas cannot coexist does not mean that

You need to hate people that are wrong.

It is not possible to love everything and I do not

No, indeed there are things I hate

But those things are not people.

It is not possible to love everything and those who claim to do so

Are liars and yet they will try so hard

And therefore they will hate those who are honest.

Even now, I am afraid to be honest.
