Under
Dark clouds of thunder, under am I
Gather together, fill up the sky
First I gazed transfixed by wonder
Then, in crept fear, and I searched for cover
But sanctuary had forsaken me
And in vain did I look, for none did I see
Flashes of lightning, lashes of wind
Powers of nature of whom I was no friend
Joined by hail, they put up a fight
And long I did struggle, to the storm’s delight
“Be still you beast!” cried I in my wrath
The only answer was the wind’s hollow laugh
Then my heart did sink, like the blown-down grass
For no sign did I see that this storm would pass
I gazed up at the clouds and endless were they
Darker and darker, as more joined the fray
And I wept, and wept, for no man can bear
Hopeless endurance, endless despair
Then a flare of hope tapped me on the arm
As a ray of light broke through the storm
To my surprise and joy, the storm clouds fled
And I remembered what my old friend had said,
“In times of oppression, when you feel undone, remember,
The storms you are under, are under the Sun”
