Under This Tree

Under this tree here I lie, Obsessed with this single tree That stands alone under the night sky. Alone and cold, but free like me. Seemingly dead yet clearly living, Standing naked brought by cold December, Like me, it continues breathing Although by no one will it be remembered. With long branches shadowed by moonlight, It appears overwhelming at first glance, But its only as cold and alone as I this night, Like everyone, it deserves a fair chance. The tree has offered shelter for me, And in return I give it my body heat. Both striving in perfect harmony, Out of nothing has been created a retreat. As soon as I have come I must go though, In search of my lost home, Leaving tracing footsteps in the snow. I must leave the tree that stands alone.
