Understanding

I do not understand.

They take away our homes and move us into a place that is not home.

A ghetto.

They let us eat only a little.

We are not like the rest anymore.

I just want to live in a real home with my family,

I just want to feel like a normal child again.

I do not understand.

They take us away from the place that is not home,

And move us into a place that is called a concentration camp.

Here they put us in wooden shoes and take away our clothes,

replacing them with striped clothes that do not fit.

I do not understand.

I am tired and overworked, I will eat very little tonight.

Today, my family was taken away from me.

I am sick, lonely, and tired.

We are treated like cattle, shoved in train and cars.

I do not understand.

I have witnessed others getting beat to death, and harassed.

I am only a child and have done anything wrong, I am innocent.

Yet, I shall keep my head down and try not to get shot.

Why are we treated like this?

I do not understand.
