Understanding my child

Day One

You were born

When I first held you life made since

My past but a glimpse

My future was you

When you cried I could make you smile

Bigger than life  I understood what was wrong

Day 1987

You had just turned 5 and stubbed your toe

You cried for me

I understood  that a kiss was all you need

You booboo was healed by my love

Day 4380

You just turned 12 and asked to dye your hair

I asked you why

And you showed me a kardashian

I asked why

And you got mad

I told you your hair is beautiful

And you got mad

I thought I understood

And you got mad

Day 5840

We had just got done with your sweet sixteen

You weren't happy

I asked what's wrong

You just cried

I asked what's wrong again

You said you didn't feel pretty

I told you you are the prettiest girl in the world

And you got mad

You got mad because i love you

I guess  I don't really understand

Day 6935

You were 19 and leaving for college

That morning i tried to wake you

You were sleeping and i made you pancakes

I tired to wake you

I tired to wake you

I tried to wake you

I tried to wake you

I tried to wake you

The pill bottle next to your lamp said a different story

One week

It's been one week and I asked myself what was wrong I thought i understood

But understanding your tears is different
