Underwater on Land

The age of lost promise and incessant stifling

Proxy conflicts causing great frightening

Young men certainly don’t want to go to war

But in every other avenue, they feel it’s been done before

No new quantum physical elation [or]

Positive social rehabilitating affirmation

No new ideas are pursued unless they could be achieved

Big Man says lament and invest if you want to succeed

The heart of the human psyche will bleed

Or be uprooted like the wooden veins of trees

This is the cyber focused age where the young

Grew up believing everything noteworthy was already done

Let your conspiracy theories run amok in this country

Some of them delirious, others all too funny

Bigfoot is real! Loch Ness Monster is up next!

Aren’t the aliens here? Haven’t you seen the Obelisk?

Is there an earthbound Superman to defeat incoming Zod?

Or is all of this believed in because we are missing God?

Vape lights blinking, the city’s sordid air stinking

No room for thinking, only deeper we’ll be sinking

Beware of inaction, but also of hustle-and-scramble

Hopes and dreams [once innocent] are now a gamble

I wish it was tangible, that which seems to be wrong

Every hint fades away or is masked with a patriotic song

The phosphorescent bulb under the lampshade is tweaking

The puddle is too shallow for the duck to put its beak in

Screensavers of faraway lands of mountainous beauty

Desktops of secret folders of information all too gloomy

Let the internet have my face and my time

Give it my sadness, give it my lies

Those that think they deserve piety

Twist words and demand tribute vilely

Highly unlikely anything in the near future will change

But so much is different, nobody will remain the same

Under the disco-light bane, purple window pane

Hollywood’s meaningless fame, Washington’s meaningless pain

Helium fumes make it all so strange

[We can all see likes and hearts on our page]

But love, truly, is so far out of range

Unfulfilled consciousness makes life bland

Like having dust in a nerval gland

Today, you need a diving suit and an ID wristband

Getting by is walking underwater on land
