underwear

sheer lace/clings to my inner thighs

I will wear them with my tight skirt and

man stomping heels in the office with the view

i only kind of like.

do you honestly believe this is a single? I’ll say,

a plastic pen poised between

the pads of my fingers-

and later they’ll be with me,

cream against my red-pale skin that

I always wished was tanner

perhaps with a man that

I can feel every part of and that can

tame me-

and we’ll probably spill red wine while

we envelop each other but it won’t matter because

they were me when I was still innocent,

when I lost my virginity to a yellow haired

boy in a yellow room, just like the sunlight that

peaked through the window the morning after-

and they will be part of me if

my belly ever balloons and I bare

babies with soft sounding names.

they are the $3 I should’ve spent on lunch-

the wavering confidence that I look at my

pale birthmarked curves and wonder if

they’re all I’m worth.

they will fade and rip,

ivory and impractical, but they

are the piece of me

I’ll never lose.
