The undoer of dreams

Stepping down the companionway,

The captain in all his nobleness

Others leaning in

To hear what he is to say,

Yet all the time he took to step down

For it was a sorrow to announce,

The ship was sinking, and they all had no time.

What have we done, they wailed.

What have we wronged?

What is the crime?!

They said their prayers, all that was wanted

For fear they shall perish and their souls be haunted.

The captain looked on past the oceans glow;

He pointed into the mist.

That’s where I’ll go, he cried,

To the end of land where others not know

To seek new times and strike forward,

With the fist of might and will

Allas I climbed onto this hill,

But now it is too steep

And I shall fall surely,

Surely Into the deep.
