Unexpected
There was happiness and joy past the honey moon phase.
There were laughs and fancy things. It was love, or so I thought.
It was an unclear mind being filled with threats, and guilt trips of someone else’s messed up past making me feel obligated to try and right those wrongs.
It was emotional abuse.
It was manipulation of the young, naïve, and confused freshman fawning over the upperclassman.
It was a one-sided relationship that lead to heartbreak and a hidden depression.
Until the unexpected happened.
There was a lake and pink flamingo shorts, with blonde highlights because of a dare that started my healing.
It was a late night shooting hoops and talking while he was trying to avoid one of my best friends who wanted him.
It was fresh yet scary because we both were previously hurt in the same way.
It was lying down in the bed of a truck gazing at the stars, knowing the both of us would be a little closed off.
It was a roller coaster full of ups and downs, on and offs, all so invigorating.
It was true bliss just being in one another’s presence and listening to music.
It was true communication and adventures with friends, yet it was like it was just the two of us.
It was “I could stare into your eyes all day and feel content, especially because they are just brown”.
It was two people who grew together without even expecting to, all the while understanding the baggage that each carried.
It was love that lead to a long journey allowing two little feet to pop up, making the duo into a trio.
It was joining together as one with the silver bands and everything that still for some reason was all, well…
Unexpected.
