Unfair

The unexplainable knowledge of something yet to come

Answering the phone not ready to hear

Hearing anyway with the unexpected tears of a cracked bean

Dumbstruck finding comfort only in a comforting hug.

Gaining the tormenting image of her clinging to life

Falling over the banister, a devastating injury from an object made for pleasure

But in my mind she was far from the edge

Away from the clutches of harm and death

Immortal, invincible, not much thought of

But now occupying my cranium

As if she has always been there, like she should have been

Because now it is probably too late to see her

To receive a welcoming smile when I enter her house

They say she will never be the same

They say she won't be.

I don't know if what they say is true

I don't know where she is

I don't know what to do

I don't know why it has to be this way

This hatred, stronger than love, than faith, than reason

Keeps us apart, keeps me from knowing

Starting at death and living through death

I hope this hatred is not the only thing that lives on.

How unexpected

How unfair

You deserve better than what life gives you

Life is a terrible lover but your only other lover is death

Life throws these rocks at you along with flowers and everything else

Gives you mixed signals like a flirtatious conflicted teenager

One day it loves one day it hates

One second it gives live another it takes

I hope this second it gives.

I hope this isn't a divorce.
