unfamiliar ground

Unfamiliar ground

new exciting sounds

but I crawl back to comfort.

why does this elude me

the act of stepping through?

I just sit here brooding

Not letting it intrude

concluding I’m not meant

for fully living

only sitting

and breathing

and thinking and thinking and

longing.

longing for what I’ve already decided

is not for me

resigned to never explore

the unfamiliar ground

set before me

the afforementioned

prospect of adventure

surrounds me

but I pull back fast

the whiplash renders me

Unconscious to the pleasure

in my arms reach.

I sleepwalk through life

not noticing the people

who would very much like

to wake me,

the banging of pots and pans,

the yelling,

the bright light

the water splashed in my eyes

the alarms all sounding at once

but none ever alarm me.
