Your connection to the rest of the world

You take a photo

You want to share it

But first you have to “fix” it

Filters, brightness, shadows, contrast

Highlights, lowlights, vignette, blurred edges

By the time you are through with it, you are satisfied

You look as perfect as can be

But is the rest of the world satisfied?

Sure, your followers “like” and comment

They tell you how beautiful you are

They know this is the reaction you want

Yet somehow, they know that this isn’t you

The perfect person in that picture is fake, touched up, unrealistic

But that person displays an aura of insecurity

That person isn’t comfortable showing who they really are

I don’t want my followers to see

The version of me that has been changed and edited

I want them to see me… without a filter

I want them to see the confidence

I want them to see the girl who loves herself for who she is

I want them to see the fun times with friends

The special moments with family

Those pictures may not be perfect

But they are true

And those genuine photos,

The images of who you really are,

Without a filter,

Are the ones that make a picture worth a thousand words
