Unfiltered

Like everybody else I have a filter,

A mask that deceives the world.

A mask that alludes

That makes me someone different.

Without my filters I would be nothing

Nothing but a boy

Lost on a road he’s not familiar with.

My filter adds substance to a blank canvas,

deep shades of confidence

and astonishing mixes of optimism and curiosity

My filter is a grappling hook

that helps ascend from a pit of self-doubt

My filter saves me from myself

And the harsh realities of life.

Without my filters I’m afraid.

Afraid of the judgment of others.

Afraid of failure.

Without my filter I am insecure,

Worried about if I fit in or not

And I mask it with great amounts of sarcasm

My filter lies.

My filter deceives.

My filter is not me.
